==Which Deity Should I Pick?==

There's a bunch, and they each have minor advantages I will list below, but honestly if you are new don't bother with that shit yet, it's splitting hairs and not going to make a huge difference to your first characters (and you can change later anyways). You just want the easiest deities to 'favor up' with so you can supplicate your corpse whenever necessary. Pick one of these:
*'''Option 1:''' Wait for hp recovery (maybe)
**If you have eaten/drank recently, you will slowly recover hp, and eventually spring back to life.
**If you have NOT, then you will slowly lose hp and eventually bleed to death on the ground.
**You'll need to observe what happens for a minute to determine which is the case, if you see yourself gaining any hp, then you should continue to gain and eventually recover. If you see yourself lose any hp, then you're going down bro.

For Evil align: [[https://rodpedia.realmsofdespair.info/wiki/Vl%27aresch Vl'aresch]]  (Vamps, Nephs, Thieves)

*'''Option 2:''' Succumb
**If you aren't gaining hp, or are impatient, you can type the command 'succumb' to give up and die.

I just use those on all my characters. I don't give a shit about the minor bonus's the other ones give you. The advantage of quick favoring and corpse retrieval with those is, to me, fucking worth it. Some random minor 5% this or that bonus isn't game breaking to me, I'm not living or dying because of those deity bonuses, so I'd rather get my corpse back and get back to work in under 2 minutes. The process of gaining favor with a deity is a bitch that can take a fucking while, that's not what I want to be doing with my time, let alone doing it under duress in the middle of a run or something.

==How to Devote to a Deity?==
*'''Option 3:''' Supplicate Restore
**If you are devoted to a deity, and have sufficient favor with them, you can use the command 'supplicate restore'
**Your deity will restore you to full health and you will stand back up and live to see another day.

You devote to a deity by walking to their room and using the command 'devote <deity>'.

You can always view/check your own deity in the 'score' command output
=After Death=

You can see other players deities in the 'whois CHARACTER' command output
Upon awakening in Notre Dame you will be 'resting'. Type 'wake' to get back up.

==How to Gain Favor?==
The lovely lady Sonoria will be there to cast some healing spells on you, which is helpful as you will be at 1 hp and naked (if level 10 or greater)
After devoting, you can check 'score' to see your current favor level with your deity. (See 'help favor_levels' for the full scale of favors)

==How to Master Death==
Death is simple, and easily rectified. You shouldn't be afraid to die. You should just be prepared correctly and it will be no big thang.

1. Devote to A'enari or Vl'aresch
==Corpse Status==
At level 10: Your corpse will lay on the ground where you died and slowly rot. If it rot's completely, it is gone, all your gear is gone, and you have lost everything.
*'''Rot Time:''' About 24 hours (IRL)
*'''Reboots:''' Corpses DO save across the daily reboot (6am EST)
*'''Crashes:''' Corpses MAY (should) save in the event of a crash.... no promises.

2. Go visit them and walk in/out until you are at "praised" favor
So, you basically have 24 real-world-hours to go and get your shit out of your corpse, and you should hope the game doesn't crash in that time period.

3. Go explore and die

4. Do 'supplicate corpse' and 'get all corpse; wear all' a bunch to get all your shit
'''Useful Command:''' remains

5. Immediately go back to the deity and re-favor back up to praised.
This command will show you the room location of your corpse, and its status as it rots.

6. Return to Step 3.
==Corpse Retrieval==
Commonly called 'CR'

=Full Details=
There are two options for reclaiming all your shit from your corpse after you die:
Honest to god the rest of this shit don't matter. Just use Aen/Vla and fuck it you're golden.

==Supplication==
*'''Option 1:''' Walk back to where you died, get your shit from your corpse
The deity system allows you to use your deity to bring you a few things, via the 'supplicate' command:
**You are naked. Go buy a light first. And maybe a recall scroll.
See: help supplicate
**Ideally, get something so you can hide/sneak and have invisibility cast on you.
**You should save/quit/relog so that any mobs which were aggro on you drop aggro.
**This can be a real fucking pain if you died somewhere 'hard'. You might need someone else to come along to kill any mobs in the way.
***You might chat "can someone help me with a CR?"

Syntax: supplicate <THING>
*'''Option 2:''' Have your deity bring your corpse(s) right to you!
          corpse  retrieves your corpse from supplicatable room(s)
**If you are devoted to a deity, and at sufficient favor, you can use the 'supplicate corpse' command
          avatar  summons an avatar of your deity
**This is easy as shit. Your corpse is brought right to your feet.
          object  summons a sigil of your deity
***There are only about 1% of rooms/areas that are 'no supplicate'.
          recall  sends you to your recall point (bypasses norecall flags)
          restore  completely restores hitpoints, mana, and movement

Some notes on those:

*'''Corpse:'''  The most useful thing to supplicate. If you've died multiple times, ALL of your corpses will get brought to you.
(There's also an Option 3: Have an immortal bring your corpse, in exchange for Glory... but that's not something newbs would do, so forget about that)
*'''Object:'''  Sigil's have 20AC, Affect AC -20, and have a +1 to a stat.
*'''Restore:''' If you're abouttttt to die.... try 'supplicate restore' to save your own ass
*'''Recall:'''  If you're out of recalls, or also about to die... try 'supplicate recall' for a quick trip home
*'''Avatar:'''  The avatar is like a pet NPC that will fight with you, but they suck. The more useful thing to do with them is use them to mark a room in a maze.

          avatar  summons an avatar of your deity
          object  summons a sigil of your deity

For all of the "Liked*" the value required is actually in the upper portion of the "Liked" range, probably around +850. So, it's possible to be "Liked" but not liked ENOUGH to supplicate those.

Oops, you died. The good news is you are essentially immortal.

When you die, your corpse remains where you died, and you awaken in a shiny new fresh body back in town at the Temple of Notre Dame (See 'help map' in game)

  • If you are under level 10, you will retain all of your items/equipment/inventory, so there is nothing 'to do' - just get back to gameplay.
  • After level 10, you will awaken stark naked, all of your belongings will remain in your corpse, and you must go get those back.

Near Death Experiences

At times, a mob may hit you such that you have negative hp, and are 'too stunned' to do anything, just sitting there incapacitated.

If you find yourself in this state, there are three possible outcomes:

  • Option 1: Wait for hp recovery (maybe)
    • If you have eaten/drank recently, you will slowly recover hp, and eventually spring back to life.
    • If you have NOT, then you will slowly lose hp and eventually bleed to death on the ground.
    • You'll need to observe what happens for a minute to determine which is the case, if you see yourself gaining any hp, then you should continue to gain and eventually recover. If you see yourself lose any hp, then you're going down bro.

  • Option 2: Succumb
    • If you aren't gaining hp, or are impatient, you can type the command 'succumb' to give up and die.

  • Option 3: Supplicate Restore
    • If you are devoted to a deity, and have sufficient favor with them, you can use the command 'supplicate restore'
    • Your deity will restore you to full health and you will stand back up and live to see another day.

After Death

Upon awakening in Notre Dame you will be 'resting'. Type 'wake' to get back up.

The lovely lady Sonoria will be there to cast some healing spells on you, which is helpful as you will be at 1 hp and naked (if level 10 or greater)

Directions back to Darkhaven Square: #5 s; e; e; se

Note: If you died extremely early on in your game, while still exploring the Halls of Knowledge (aka "Academy"), and are not yet familiar with the town of Darkhaven proper, to return to the Halls of Knowledge directions are: #5 s; e; e; se;#3 e; s; d

Corpse Status

At level 10: Your corpse will lay on the ground where you died and slowly rot. If it rot's completely, it is gone, all your gear is gone, and you have lost everything.

  • Rot Time: About 24 hours (IRL)
  • Reboots: Corpses DO save across the daily reboot (6am EST)
  • Crashes: Corpses MAY (should) save in the event of a crash.... no promises.

So, you basically have 24 real-world-hours to go and get your shit out of your corpse, and you should hope the game doesn't crash in that time period.

Useful Command: remains

This command will show you the room location of your corpse, and its status as it rots.

Corpse Retrieval

Commonly called 'CR'

There are two options for reclaiming all your shit from your corpse after you die:

  • Option 1: Walk back to where you died, get your shit from your corpse
    • You are naked. Go buy a light first. And maybe a recall scroll.
    • Ideally, get something so you can hide/sneak and have invisibility cast on you.

    • If you are devoted to a deity, and at sufficient favor, you can use the 'supplicate corpse' command
    • This is easy as shit. Your corpse is brought right to your feet.

Death is simple, and easily rectified. You shouldn't be afraid to die. You should just be prepared correctly and it will be no big thang.

1. Devote to a Deity with very easy favor method (A'enari or Vl'aresch suggested for newbs)

2. Go visit them and walk in/out until you are at "praised" favor
