Augs should just pump hp hp and more hp to maximize spiral blast damage. Keeping stats up is a challenge, so max hp then swap whatever gear you must to fix stats (or spend glory to add stats to something). Augs can easily be either Devout or Evil, your pick!
Augs have some nice gear that is pretty aug-specific that you'll need to get some friends to run for (not necessary WITH augs, but for the gear). Working to get your guy all that good aug gear can be fun, or frustrating. If you can find some friends to help most of those runs are not hard really, and can be fun to go figure out and work on. Here's a brief list of the more aug-specific gear you'll be working towards:
Longinus - Ziggurat - Timelessness, Immortal Light (Archer run)
Zharr'mak - Salburg - sandals of the messenger and sash of prophetic knowledge
Anasia Pye - La Chute - the mantle of [good omens / ill portents], a twist in time, sleeve of legerdemain
Most Aug's will be devout I think, but really not for any reason. Evil Aug's are also cool and pretty easy to dress, you can basically wear like 85% the same gear and just swap a few pieces to change align. So, go whichever way you want based on which eq you think you can actually get.

=Summary=
=Summary=

Ehhhh they're cool but I don't use my much. If you like the thematic elements, go for it. Spiral+Coil is super solid, they're just a bit flimsy if you have to eat any damage really. For me, I kinda put them in the same class a Fathomers - both are fine, both are valid choices for a lot of runs, but..... if you have a big dread or hunter those are probably better in most cases.
They do have some other nice perks. Helical Flow (astral walk) is of course convenient. Third Eye is a key skill that you can learn to use and abuse if you put your mind to it. They get all the useful functional utilities like scry (discern is a cool variant as well that lets you 'consider' a mob in an adjacent room too), detects, identify, invis, etc, etc, so they're pretty good at walking around exploring, winging it in the wild. Wow that might be the name of my next album. Sums up my entire life story actually.

=Prestige=
=Prestige=
A Harbinger is really a nice step up from regular Augurer. The speed of spiral is even faster which is fucking insane and you can really output some real damage. They don't get anything else really, so, its just that faster spiral and it definitely makes them a beast as a hitter if you pump hp (and maybe spend all the glory you got to prestige on extra hp).

About

  • Rodpedia: Augurer
  • Genre: Sorcerer
  • Races: Drow, Dwarf, Elf, Gith, Gnome, Half-Troll, Human, Sea-elf, Tiefling
    • Race Recommendation: Dwarf. They get more HP, which you want for max Spiral Blast damage.
  • HP Gained per Level: 13-18
    • Prestige: 14-20
  • Average Hitpoints: Non-prestige average hp/level should be 15.571
    • Avg: Should be around 793 (30 + (49*15.571))
  • Magic Object: Aug's must cast the 'crystallize' spell to create a magic crystal that is required to cast most of their spells.
    • Those get consumed fairly quickly while fighting so you'll always have a pile on you.

Harbinger 20 20 26 18 20 20 22

Suggested Base Stats: Honestly I have no clue, use the eq database to dress up an aug with shit you can get then adjust stats to fit. Aug gear tends to have a lot of str/wis on it, so you can allocate more stats to luck, and then con or dex.

Fighting

  • Weapons: (95% Adept)
    • Flexible Arms - "Whipping, Flailing"
    • Augurers get "Dual Wield" weapon skill
Alpha Attack
Attack Type Damage Modifier RIS Type Resist Suscept Saving Throw Restrictions Lag
Spiral Blast Spell HP None None None None None 1/2 bar
  • Spiral Blast is tied to your current hp, the more hp, the more damage
  • Spiral is the fastest attack in the game with really a 1/2 bar lag, you can launch many per round (and more as Prestige)

Tactics:

  • Coil of Flame
    • Coil is an AoE attack that will hit all mobs in the room
    • Coil is a fire-based attack (RIS fire)
    • Coil is an ongoing spell that lasts for multiple rounds and triggers every round. Therefore, fighting as an Aug ideally means casting coil to get that going, then spiraling a shit ton, then re-casting coil, over and over
      • Regular Augs can cast coil then 13 spirals before they have to re-coil
      • Prestige Augs (Harbingers) can cast coil then 17 spirals before they have to re-coil

Note that coil has a (pink) expiry message that is shown TWICE before the spell expires, re-coil upon the second instance of the message:

The coil of flame evaporates as the spell runs its course.

Equipment Info: Augurer EQ

Most Aug's will be devout I think, but really not for any reason. Evil Aug's are also cool and pretty easy to dress, you can basically wear like 85% the same gear and just swap a few pieces to change align. So, go whichever way you want based on which eq you think you can actually get.

Gameplay

  • Quests: As part of the Sorcerer genre, they can do the Magus Armor equipment set quest.

  • Runs: Aug's are pretty much more damage output, with the speed of coil they can pump out damage very quickly, without lag
  • Mob doesn't change tanks, so someone can tank it with a dedicated char, and Augs can hit hit hit without fear of becoming the tank.
  • Mob spawns little guys. Coil of Flame (room attack) will clean those guys up.
  • Mob is resistant to fire damage and Coil of Flame lands.
  • You want very fast damage output, without huge attack lag so you can heal if you need to.

The have (or at some point HAD) the highest DPS of any class - these days with Prestive that may or may not still be the case, I'm not sure.
