Basic AV Gear

So you just AV'd your character, wtf do you do now?

You're going to need to upgrade your gear to as much level 50'ish gear as possible, this gear will have much higher DR/AC/HP than your leveling gear and set up you to go start fighting shit to fully equip yourself with good shit.

Upon reaching level 50, you should open the EQ Database and set up your character in there.

If you are starting from scratch and don't have access to a guild donation chest, you will want to first spec out the best attainable leveling gear you can get so that you're at least wearing decent stuff (typically level 30-50 with high DR/HP/AC).

Once you have proper high-level-lowbie gear, you can then pursue upgrades of each slot until you are wearing most of the basic avatar gear.

Please note: A LOT of the basic AV gear can be found in guild donation chests, so it behooves you to join a guild. Upon reaching AV you can then just go scan donations and I bet you find a lot of the basic av gear in there so you won't have to run around and gather as much.

Basic Gear

This list is the entry-level basic bitch sorta avatar gear. A lot of it can be obtained solo, and the ones that cannot be solo'd are usually found in abundance in guild donation chests or very easy to obtain via merely asking for help - someone will probably just give you it for free, or run out there to kill it with you, in under 5 minutes.

Once you have ONE character dressed in basic AV gear, it will be a ton easier to run around and fetch this stuff for your other chars.

• Finger: the shade ring, scorched band of glass
• Neck: a golden torque, scales of alpha & omega
• Body: adamantium plate armor
• Head: the shade helm, obsidian helmet
• Legs: eltor hide leggings
• Feet: a pair of duck boots
• Hands: fingerless silk gloves, gauntlets of red dragonhide
• Arms: silver dragonhide armguards, batwings
• Shield: shield of the Valkyrie, huge shield of oak
• About: cloak of Death, cloak of Demons, cloak of Light
• Waist: the Ice Girth
• Wrist: spiked leather wristguard, a bracer of fire, crystal dragon bracer
• Held: Storm, the matrix of desolution
• Ears: crystalline teardrop, stapes of the lich
• Eyes: the shades, visor of light
• Back: a thick piece of lizard hide
• Face: an ancient mask, the facade of the Hannya
• Ankle: a blue glassy chain, a turquoise anklet, a demonskin ankle bracer

Example

Here's an example for Paladin that shows moving from leveling gear into the basic Avatar gear.

This example is by far not scripture, it's just whatever I quickly spotted in the eq database as like 'yea, that'll do' as a starting point.

• Key Pieces
  • The Ice Girth - you really want one of these. It won't be hard to get someone to help you run it, but they are also super cheap to buy. In fact, I sell them buy-one-get-one-free on Aen for 2m coins ;)
  • Adamantium Plate Armor - This item has high as shit AC, and the 'body' slot has a multiplier on AC, so the end result net AC gain is nutso. This can be challenging to get by yourself - you likely need to multi with a few chars or ask for help.

Most of that gear comes from these 'runs' (which once you are properly dressed are not much of a run at all actually). I've broken those into things you probably can definitely solo, those which you probably can solo but should have slightly better than leveling gear on, and those you should ask about.

• Definitely Solo:
  • Sir Percival (leggings of the Messenger)
  • A svirfneblin wizard (duck boots)
  • The Kraken (crystalline teardrop)
  • Dragon's Pass (all of them are pretty easy, silver/gold are the hardest and maybe you want help with)

• Probably Solo:
  • Shade the Dark
  • Cernnunos
  • Horus

• Multi or get help:
  • Captain Lodd
  • Captain Mandor
  • Captain Nelson
  • IcingDeath (Ice Girth)
  • Bahamut
  • Dracolithos

Mana Slut Gear

For mage/cleric spell bots who only buff and never fight, whore yourself out for cheap and easy mana:

• a necklace of raven feather
• a silver and turquoise bracelet
• Memories of Spring
• the Ice Earrings

Weapons

Ideally you wanna eventually get a weapon that matches your highest weapon type proficiency.

Some real basic starting points are:

• Aug/Fat/Ran/Cle: The Dragon Claw of Legend
• Vamp/Thief/Mage/Neph: Soulslayer, Lord Kahl's Thievesblade, Darkness
• Warrior/Paladin: a sword with the kings crest, Shieldbreaker, Maul of Stone

The only other consideration is that for magic casters, you might just wanna go with something that is high mana and who cares about weapon type because you won't really be doing much damage with physical attacks anyhow. Dragon Claw of Legend is the highest mana weapon that's easy to get. Also, a staff of chiseled obsidian is good for casters even if it doesn't match their best proficiency. For example, Mages and Nephandi's might wanna go with one of those just for the mana.
