You can also use sex changing to obtain a sword and complete the quest. You can also create swords on chars unable to use them.... However, there's no point. See below for full details.

1. Get a directive from Grandmaster Nagahachi.

2. After a complete pass of the edo dragon, go down, 2 east from "Before the Giant Chasm" to Princess Kushinada and type "break chain" (I was wielding the Dragon's Bane as primary weapon).

You raise Dragon's Bane above your head and it comes crashing down upon the long mithril chain, smashing it into pieces.
Princess Kushinada gasps in astonishment.
Princess Kushinada exclaims 'You have done it! You have freed me! Please come to my father and he will reward you!'

3. Pick up the chain.

You get a broken chain made from mithril.

3. Go back to Grandmaster Nagahachi and get your 10 glory.

4. With 15m gold, 8 teeth in inventory, give the chain to Master Uyeda.

Master Uyeda gives you an amulet of dragon teeth on a mithril chain.

Master Uyeda says 'Plus, I will need 20,000,000 gold on you for the service.'
Master Uyeda grins.
Master Uyeda says 'It's not an easy process, but if you have the items and are
interested in proceeding, say 'Daimyo's Golden Amulet''
Master Uyeda smiles happily.
Master Uyeda gives you a golden coin of the Daimyo.

Storyline

1. Directive from Daimyo. You kneel to him to obtain it.

2. Spike & Hides:


The Abyss: Yamata-no-orochi -- 8(?) Heads, Body, & Tail: 
 -I'd bring a fathomer, thief, and warrior for this. Two people can do a clean pass. Do Heads first, then main dragon. 
 - Heads
 -As you kill the dragon heads, the rest of them become weaker. Its like a breath mob, but the hp of the mob is the collective combined HP of all 12 mobs (1 is wizinvis).
 -I'd kill the red and yellow first, they are easiest.
 -You can drop the coarse, and then ridged, fairly easily with vindur. After that, its just a matter of picking them off.
 -You cant kill the wings or the body yet.
 -Make sure you drop the wizinvis, magic weapons, easy solo. Walk around shrieking.
 -The white and one of the blacks are immune energy.
 -When you do the main dragon, nasr warriors apparently work well.
 -It randomly trans's up into the Ceiling in the Abyss. If it does, just wait there. If you've killed all the dragons, it will drop back down fairly quickly.
 
Spike: The barbed spike (a large, barbed dragon spike) is from the tail, and is a random pop.

The long, scaled tail of 'Yamata-no-orochi' is DEAD!!
As the long, scaled tail of 'Yamata-no-orochi' is slashed from its body, a barbed spike breaks off and falls to the ground.
the long, scaled tail of 'Yamata-no-orochi' catches on fire and turns to ash before your eyes.

 -Kill Main Body last: 

Hide: At about covered in blood, it will flee the Abyss, and it'll be in the rice fields. NOTE: This is a no vindur zone.
 -After you kill this dragon (you dont need a directive in inventory), you will pop (?) a hide.
 -This hide is one of the 5 pieces you need. (a bloodied piece of dragon hide)

3. Gather hides off Shimmergloom, Shadow Stalker, and Dalkiel.

Shimmergloom: just make sure your char has a directive in inventory on KB, or it wont pop the hide.
(either  a torn piece of dragon hide or  a mangled piece of dragon hide).

Dalkiel: is easy enough, a couple thieves, again directives. (either  a torn piece of dragon hide or a mangled piece of dragon hide)

Shadow Stalker:

It spawns randomly at night, and flees to the Void if a non-barb walks in on it.

Set up a network of chars to scan the northern plains with. Have barbs 
prepped, spelled, and logged off. It will not flee away if in combat, so even 
if people die, just keep it in battle until they get back.

You need plenty of save vs breath for this kill. 
The way we killed it is 3 barbs, 2 rending, 1 tanking. Rescue the tank if he double breaths. Otherwise rend it for your life. There's a charge prog on it.

Make sure your barb has a directive when you Kb it. Do NOT, if you die, loot your corpse while the mob is in the room. It mpdelays, and it will significantly pwn upon your body.

Now you have all 5 pieces: 4 hides and 1 spike. 

You need to kill the Orochi dragon again to free the princess, so I'd suggest leaving Orochi until last.

4. Make Dragon's Bane: Give the spike, and have all 4 hides, in inventory.

You give a large, barbed dragon spike to Master Yorito.
Master Yorito gasps as he realizes what you did.
Master Yorito says 'Oh, excellent, you have taken a spike from Yamata-no-orochi.. I imagine she didn't give it up willingly.'
Master Yorito thinks, 'Hmmmm.'
Master Yorito says 'I once created a sword using dragon parts that would put 
my Kami Sword to shame. I might be able to make it again if I had the right 
elements...'
You give a torn piece of dragon hide to Master Yorito.
You give a mangled piece of dragon hide to Master Yorito.
You give a ripped piece of dragon hide to Master Yorito.
You give a bloodied piece of dragon hide to Master Yorito.
Master Yorito fans the flames of his furnace.
Fire and ash burst forth from the furnace.
Master Yorito puts the three dragon hides and the one dragon spike into the 
furnace and watches as they begin to glow.
Carefully pulling out the hides, Master Yorito begins slicing away sections, 
forming the blade, hilt and pommel. He then removes the spike from the 
furnace and tips the end of the sword with it, fashioning a razor sharp edge.
Master Yorito steps back from his work for a moment and admires it.
Master Yorito exclaims 'This sword will be feared by dragon's across the land. Use it well!'
Master Yorito smiles happily.
Master Yorito gives you Dragon's Bane.

5. Kill Orochi (again?) and free the Princess:

After a complete pass of the edo dragon, go down, 2 east from "Before the Giant Chasm" to Princess Kushinada and type "break chain" (I was wielding the Dragon's Bane as primary weapon).

Walk into Grandmaster's Room
Grandmaster Nagahachi beams a smile at you as you enter.
Grandmaster Nagahachi says 'You have brought great joy to my heart, Hephaistion. For that I must reward you!'
Your glory has been increased by 10.
Grandmaster Nagahachi says 'Please be welcome amongst my people, as a saviour!'
Grandmaster Nagahachi smiles at you.


You can complete the quest once per character, but you can get as many swords as you want.

You should keep a barb, and a thief perhaps, maybe warrior, with directives, to kill the four mobs with.


Yamata-no-oroch

Heads

-The craggy red head
-The yellow-speckled head
-The coarsely scaled head
   Either multi him with clerics to heal, or, use a warrior and "smash" him in the SE corner. 
   This will trans him to the NW room and give you time to heal.

-The bulbous black head
   Tank this guy with a paladin or similiar mana user. 
   He drains mana only, and the huge hp drain prog won't kick in unless you are out of mana or on a mana-less class. 
   He drains approx 250 mana per necro, so keep it up there. Imm magic, so use circlers and shieldbash.

-The white-speckled head
   Imm magic, so you'll need circle or feigners.

-The small, black head
   Vindur

-The ridged, round head
   Vindur
   Make sure you drink spring here, not drink, or else you will poison and etch!

-The rough charcoal head (wizinviz)
   He is immune nonmagic so ensure you use vindur. Use isfundere, shriek, or spiral to find him.

The long, scaled tail

Kill the wings after the dragon moves to the ricefield - heals too much any other time.

The large, scale covered body

You can multi it, so log lots of fathomers.

While in the Abyss:

 Chars : Fathomers work best. Thieves also work reasonably.
 IP Check : None
 Shields : All
 Progs : Randomly transes players somewhere else in the abyss. Occassionally flies "up" into the ceiling and invokes a head, 
         need to kill the head before you can attack the body again.
         It will trans into the rice fields at about covered in blood.

Once in the Ricefields:

 Chars : Thieves work best here. No fathomers, as sector type prevents vindur.
 IP Check : Firmly 1, >ip1 in the area causes massive healing.
 Shields : All
 Progs : Occassional trans prog out of the room. Huge "Curse" prog which can do like 1k hp damage.
