This page is a basic breakdown of Death and Deities for new players.
I'm going to start to break more specific data onto additional new pages. Leaving it all in place below for now, while I continue offloading to:
*Deities  -- This is the main source of specific info about deities, their benefits, how to favor, etc.
*Deity Directions  -- This is directions to each Deity & Naos
*Priests  -- This is about the roaming Priests which seemingly serve no purpose and are merely interesting.
I'm really trying not to do a full page on either Deity since that's redundant to RodPedia, but I do have more information, so not sure how I'll proceed quite yet.

Corpse Status
Your corpse will lay on the ground and slowly rot. If it rot's completely, it is gone, all your gear is gone, and you have lost everything.
*Rot Time: About 24 hours
*Reboots: Corpses DO save across the daily reboot (6am EST)
*Crashes: Corpses MAY (should) save in the event of a crash.... no promises.
So, you basically have 24 real-world-hours to go and get your shit out of your corpse, and you should hope the game doesn't crash in that time period.
Useful Command: remains
This command will show you the room location of your corpse, and its status as it rots.

There's a bunch, and they each have minor advantages I will list below, but honestly if you are new don't bother with that shit yet, it's splitting hairs and not going to make a huge difference to your first characters (and you can change later anyways). You just want the easiest deities to 'favor up' with so you can supplicate your corpse whenever necessary. Pick one of these:

I just use those on all my characters. I don't give a shit about the minor bonus's the other ones give you. The advantage of quick favoring and corpse retrieval with those is, to me, fucking worth it. Some random minor 5% this or that bonus isn't game breaking to me, I'm not living or dying because of those deity bonuses, so I'd rather get my corpse back and get back to work in under 2 minutes. The process of gaining favor with a deity is a bitch that can take a fucking while, that's not what I want to be doing with my time, let alone doing it under duress in the middle of a run or something.

When you've hit a new low in your own personal life, and truly 'give up', and are ready to look into the rest of the Deities you can check em out on the Deities page.

The "Praised" level is what you need to be at to 'supplicate corpse'. So, with these deities you essentially always have the ability to supp corpse, and then re-favor back up to Praised in like 30 second, and repeat that process of dying/supplicating/refavoring quite quickly.

How to Master Death
Death is simple, and easily rectified. You shouldn't be afraid to die. You should just be prepared correctly and it will be no big thang.

1. Devote to A'enari or Vl'aresch

2. Go visit them and walk in/out until you are at "praised" favor

3. Go explore and die

4. Do 'supplicate corpse' and 'get all corpse; wear all' a bunch to get all your shit

5. Immediately go back to the deity and re-favor back up to praised.

6. Return to Step 3.

Favoring Automation
OK fine, I'll do the work for you.... make aliases in your client that do something like this:

Generic Speedwalks
These just walk you to A'enari/Vl'aresch and in/out of their room a ton.

#ALIAS {goaen} {#8 n;ne;w;n;ne;nw;e;ne;n;e;ne;#2 n;#2 ne;#2 e;n;ne;nw;w;#4 n;enter;ne;w;e;w;e;w;e;w;e;w;e;w;e;w;e;w;e;w;e;w}

#ALIAS {govla} {#42 w;#7 n;cauldron;s;w;e;w;e;w;e;w;e;w;e;w;e;w;e;w;e}

*Note #1: Walking to Vl'aresch frequently hits random mobs on the way, and will fuck up your speedwalk. You can craft another route along the Western Trade Route for safety, but I'm leaving that up to you.

*Note #2: I've put a ton of final e;w;e;w;e;w moves in those above, because I don't know how many it really takes, so you can fine-tune that.

TinTin Favor Code
*A slightly smarter idea can be done if you're running any client with MSDP support because it provides a 'favor' variable you can check.
**For Tintin++ grab my MSDP Script

Create speedwalks so they terminate in the deity's rooms.

#ALIAS {goaen} {#8 n;ne;w;n;ne;nw;e;ne;n;e;ne;#2 n;#2 ne;#2 e;n;ne;nw;w;#4 n;enter;ne;w};
#ALIAS {govla} {#42 w;#7 n;cauldron;s;w};

Then I trigger upon the room names that Aen/Vla sit in to check msdp for favor, if I'm not praised or higher, move east/west again. That will retrigger the trigger, and this will continue until you are favored up and then recall (you'll also need a 'recall' alias).
<pre>
#ACTION {
                #IF {"$msdp_info[FAVOR]" != "{praised|honored|cherished|loved}"} {e;w};
                #ELSE {recall};
        }
</pre>

Additional Info
Honest to god the rest of this shit don't matter. Just use Aen/Vla and fuck it you're golden.
Supplication
The deity system allows you to use your deity to bring you a few things, via the 'supplicate' command:

See: help supplicate

Syntax: supplicate <THING>
corpse  retrieves your corpse from supplicatable room(s)
avatar  summons an avatar of your deity
object  summons a sigil of your deity
recall  sends you to your recall point (bypasses norecall flags)
restore  completely restores hitpoints, mana, and movement

|Restore|| Liked* || If you're about to die, try 'supp restore' to save your ass
|-
|Recall || Liked* || If you forgot a recall, or if you're about to die, try 'supp recall' to gtfo (Note: You'll lose a shit ton of xp)
|-
|Avatar || Liked* || The avatar is like a pet NPC that will fight with you, but they suck. The more useful thing to do with them is use them to mark a room in a maze.

For all of the "Liked*" the value required is actually in the upper portion of the "Liked" range, probably around +850. So, it's possible to be "Liked" but not liked ENOUGH to supplicate those.

Favor Details
The following actions will impact your favor. These are found in the older SMAUG code, some seem redundant - because they are, as newer code has been added into the game over time which now entail/encompass previous conditions, yet both remain active.

Theoretically all of the flavor text that outlines what deities "like/dislike" to gain favor should correspond to these.

How to detect "Full" Favor
While the highest favor level is "Loved", that itself is a range from +2251 to +2500 favor "points", and sometimes you want to be sure you are absolutely fully maxed on favor (+2500). This comes in to play with some things like creating the Super Sigils (outlined below) or other tasks about the realms.

When you've decided that's it, you were never meant to marry, you might want to check out the table below which attempts to quantify all of the info known about Deities. For additional write-ups on each Deity please see Rodpedia

*Additional Notes:
**Estathius: Is not fooled by sex-change affects
**Tempus: See 'Tempuran Slash'. Cast's sanc on you if you visit him at loved.
**Shivvan: Gain favor by Visiting like A'enari/Vl'aresch but much harder to get to. Also, will steal your gold
**Sh'vath: Gain favor by Visiting like A'enari/Vl'aresch, goes a bit higher to Cherished.
**Ghordhol: Gain favor by Visiting and giving them gold. Approx 1m per favor level.
**Kalerd: Gain favor by Visiting their Naos and examining the orb every 30-40 minutes.
**Tirebaen: Gain favor by Visiting their Naos and examining the tureen every 30-40 minutes
**Sil-Galith: Casts sanc, elemental shields, armor, bless, shield, and valiance on you if you pray to her (See Here)

Since you see special Resistance and Affects benefits at full max favor, just check for those:
*Run the 'aff by' command and look for the benefits outlined for your deity Here
**Note you may want to dispel all other spells first to be sure what you're seeing is from your deity and not a spell or potion.

Some deities also have an "Extra" feature, typically a piece of eq or special potions. There may be more than is listed here.

Super Sigils
Sigils can be upgraded, twice. To upgrade:
# Be at Max Loved favor
# Have a sigil of your deity
# Give the sigil to your Deity

This can be done twice:
# For the first upgrade: hand in a regular sigil and it will be renamed (no other changes).
# For the second upgrade: hand a renamed sigil, the deity will upgrade it into a 'super sigil'

Super Sigils do have more stats, but are also temporary items that will eventually expire and go poof. They are all identical:
<pre>
Object '__________' is infused with your magic...
It is a level 50 light, weight 1.

Priests
Supplication
The deity system allows you to use your deity to bring you a few things, via the 'supplicate' command:

Each Deity has priests which wander around the realms. The purpose of these mobs is, to my knowledge, still unknown.
See: help supplicate

*All of them have a help file (usually corresponds to mob keyword)
Syntax: supplicate <THING>
**They are mostly all described as warring with the 'opposite' deity/preists, good vs evil, order vs. chaos, etc.
corpse  retrieves your corpse from supplicatable room(s)
**I have had more luck finding the help files than finding the mobs.
avatar  summons an avatar of your deity
*Many of them have odd keywords, the keyword 'priest' work on all of them.
object  summons a sigil of your deity
*Most of them have speech progs or other various progs to find and interact with.
recall  sends you to your recall point (bypasses norecall flags)
**Those progs vary based on if you are devoted to the corresponding deity or not.
restore  completely restores hitpoints, mana, and movement
*All of them can be killed, they are all very long and boring fights.
**Most of them are wearing eq, but corpses will be empty at death.

I haven't cataloged them all yet, I'm sure the rest are probably out there, send me intel if you want.

Word on the street is that these are part of an unfinished story/quest/something, and that they currently serve no purpose. Classic. I think they're neat anyways, and enjoy documenting them.

A'enari - The Divini Priest
Short Desc:
A priest in white robes spreads the word of his faith.
The Divini priest glows with an aura of divine radiance.
Long Desc:
<pre>
If it were not for his stately attire, the priest would fade into a crowd
and never be noticed. He has unremarkable features and is of average height
and weight for a human. He is Divini and the reputation of the fanatical
followers of A'enari lends him a power and aura that he could not muster on
his own. The white robe he wears is the trademark of all Divini; pure white
with a likeness of the Serpent and Rainbow on the back. The robe is easily
spotted in a crowd and many a worshiper of the darker powers has made a
hasty retreat upon seeing its flashing brilliance; the Divini priests are
notoriously intolerant of any form of evil, perceived or not.
The Divini priest is in perfect health.

The Divini priest is using:
Corpse
<worn around neck>  Talisman of the Goddess
<worn on body>      serpentine chainmail
<worn on legs>      white, chainmail leggings
<worn on feet>      dust-covered, white boots
<worn about body>    White robes of the Divini
<worn about waist>  Sash of the Divini
<held>              (Glowing) a gnarled walking stick

*Favor Cost: 1000  (4 Favor Levels - Praised will drop to Tolerated, etc)
*Syntax: supplicate corpse
**If you have multiple corpses out in the world, all of them will be brought to you.
*Restrictions: Some rooms/areas in the realms are "no-supplicate".
**This means that if you die there you cannot use your deity to supplicate your corpse.
**Take extraaaaa caution in these areas, as you will have to return there (buck naked) to retrieve your gear from your corpse if you die.

Progs:
Don't forget that you can use the 'remains' command to check on your corpse(s), its location, and status of rotting.
(On an A'enari char (warrior)):
You say 'naos'
The Divini priest says 'So soon you forget that which you should know, Kilgane.'

You say 'A'enari' (or 'Goddess')
The Divini priest says 'There is but one Goddess of this realm Dyr, and that is A'enari.'

Also.... note that your corpse is a thing that's laying on the floor. Don't supplicate corpse while you're in some place up in the air or your corpse will fall down until it actually hits solid ground. If that's more than 3 rooms, your corpse will explode and all your crap will be just laying on the ground there, free for anyone to pick up. Always supplicate corpse somewhere safe, on the ground.

Will heal you if you are devout and it enters your room:
Sigils
The Divini priest utters the words, 'pzar'.
*Minimum Favor Required: Liked

The Divini priest nods in greeting towards you.

Supp object creates a piece of equipment, always a light, always named "the sigil of <YOUR DEITY>"
*They are all identical in their basic specs (hp/mn/mv/ac)
*They each include a different STAT +1

Sends Evil Lowbies back to Harakiem in DH:
<Lowbie> flies in from the northwest.
The Divini priest slowly turns to face <Lowbie>.
Clutching the talisman at his throat The Divini priest shouts..
The Divini priest exclaims 'I grant you forgiveness, in the name of the Goddess!'
The Divini priest exclaims 'Get out of my sight!'
A whirlwind of air rushes through the room!

Sigil Renames
Sigils have a tiny bit of fun built into them as they can be upgraded twice.

Bron'trel - Brother Lopyn
The first upgrade merely renames the sigil to something slightly more interesting.
Short Desc:
Ageless wisdom shines from the eyes of this stooped figure.
Brother Lopyn is shrouded in flowing shadow and light.

Long Desc:
<pre>
The priest is old, perhaps close to his time of retirement. His face is
creased with wrinkles and his posture is stooped from countless years
wandering the realms. He is a priest of the Brotherhood, the stoic group
of priests that serve Bron'trel. In his younger days, he spent his time
scouring the realms for the elusive and wily minions of chaos. Now that
it pains him to move about, he stays closer to the larger cities and the
warm inns where he can council the devoted and provide his vast knowledge
to the Prophets.

Brother Lopyn is using:
To upgrade:
<used as light>      Objectivity
# Be at Max Loved favor
<worn on feet>      tan moccasins
# Have a sigil of your deity
<worn about body>    a purple and tan robe
# Give the sigil to your Deity
<held>              (Glowing) a gnarled sceptre
</pre>

The 'help brotherhood' also outlines how the brotherhood opposes the Harum-scarum (LaChte Priests):
There is a percent chance that your deity hands it back to you with a fun rename. See "Sigil Rename" column Here

<pre>
Note that this does cost favor to attempt, similar to supplicating something, so you'll need to re-favor back to full Loved favor to try again.
The Brotherhood is probably the only group of priests that can discern
the real from the not, when it comes to the God of Chaos' minions.
Given the gift of 'seeing' by Bron'trel, the wily minions of chaos
appear in their true forms to the Brotherhood. The shapeshifters are
well aware of this and many times will vanish into ethereal clouds at
the approach of a priest of Bron'trel. The Brotherhood has also been
known to come to the aid of the faithful against these shapeshifters,
though how they learn of their need in any given situation, is not
exactly known. Only the priests know how.

Super Sigils
LaChte - The Harum-Scarum
Once you have renamed a sigil, you can attempt to upgrade it a second time if you want.
*The Sigil will once again be renamed into its special Super Sigil name. (See "Super Sigil" column Here)
*Super Sigils have a great deal more stats on them than regular or renamed sigils. (See Below)

*These are mimics. They will appear in room as a copy of a mob, another player, or yourself.
NOTE: Super Sigils are temporary items - they expire and go poof eventually (few hours).
**You can discern the mimic from a player because the mob will NOT list (Invis)(Hide)(Sneak) in front of their name.
**If he's copy'ing a mob, 'exam MOB' will not work (i.e. if he's mimic of an orc 'exa orc' says "You do not see that here")
**Keywords that work for exam/look: priest, chirus, harum, anp
*They have speech progs: chirus, naos (differs based on if you are devoted to LaChte or not)
*Keywords that work for 'where' are: priest, chirus, anp
*The help file is also available as 'help entity'
*Seems his real name is "The True Chirus" or "The Answer" from the below:

Room Desc:
The method to upgrade a Renamed Sigil into a Super Sigil is the exact same:

Long Desc:
To upgrade:
There is something odd about the look of this one....
# Be at Max Loved favor
# Have a Renamed Sigil of your deity
FAKE_MOB is in perfect health.      (Where the FAKE_MOB will be whoever he is mimicing, another mob, or your char name, etc)
# Give the Renamed Sigil to your Deity

Again, there is a percent chance your deity will turn it into a Super Sigil for you.

Eventually - if it is just you and him in the room, his descriptions will start to show up as "The Answer", which matches what's described in 'help harum-scarum' here:

This summons a level 15 NPC who is your little minion and can do stuff at your behest.

Ultimately these are not useful in fighting, and die quickly. They are MORE commonly used (its the ONLY time I've ever seen them used) to mark rooms in mazes that otherwise prevent you drop dropping items or creating magic springs/fires to flag a specific room. You can park a supplicated avatar in one of those rooms as a marker. Basically an easier method than bringing in another actual char (or where you must remain IP1).

Gre'Vos - The Moondog
<pre>
The creature's coat shines with streaks of silver in the moonlight. A square
and brutish looking animal, the creature looks capable of defending itself
quite well. It has piercing yellow eyes that almost appear to shine of their
own accord, making the animal easy to spot in the darkness. Its muzzle is
blunt and square, housing rows of sharp teeth. It frequently tests the wind,
no doubt searching for the nemesis of its goddess on the night air.
</pre>

Believed to spawn in the Graveyard.

Mak'kor - Diabolist
Bael - Death's Black Cloak
<pre>
Little can be made out about this being, it is a mere shadow shaped vaguely
like a human. And though you can look at it with your eyes, it is not seen.
For all its lack of detail, it is one creature few will forget meeting.

Death's Black Cloak is in perfect health.

Death's black cloak appears to be between level 50 and 55.
Death's black cloak looks like an undead, and follows the ways of the vampire.

Sarane - Matrons
Wirawyth - The Dragoon
<pre>
(Hide) There is something suspicious about the way this man lingers about.
</pre>

<pre>
The man is dressed in battle gear that speaks of his frequent combative encounters. He looks well prepared to handle even the largest of foes. There are many such adventurers in the realm, so the sight of him is not unusual. What sets him apart from all the other wanderers of the world, is the way he watches everything about him, as if weighing its worth. The slightly shifty gaze and the way his stare seems to slide away from yours when you look at him suggests he's looking for more than a friendly greeting. As he turns his head away, a black tattoo of a star below his right ear catches your eye. The tattoo is so small it could almost pass for a blemish or a smudge of dirt, but it is definitely a star tattoo.

Tempus
I don't think Tempus has one
3. Go explore and die

5. Immediately go back to the deity and re-favor back up to praised.
The man is thin as a rail and not a single trace of emotion seems to have
ever crossed his face. He wears a cloak of deepest black without so much as
a single speck of dust to be seen on it. One of the Revisionists, this dour
priest's presence can only bode ill for any who come into contact with him.

A priest of Sorrow is in perfect health.
6. Return to Step 3.

with perhaps some elven heritage, but it is hard to say. The being wears a
cloak of black, along with black leggings and plate armor. The only bit of
color seems to stem from the outer shell and a single strand of red pearls
about his throat. An aura of power surrounds this being and it is difficult
to tell if it is a benevolent creature or not. Could this be one of the
notorious priests of Faith that cause the prophets such misgivings?

The Sul'gali priest is in perfect health.

About all that can be made out through the swirling air and debris is a pair

having little concept of just how far these whirlwinds will go in creating
their havoc. It is best not to get cornered by one of these priests, there
is no telling what they will do.

(White Aura) A holy light surrounds this child as she wanders about the area.

The child can't be more than five or six summers old. She is a petite girl, with
strawberry blonde hair and angelic blue eyes that twinkle merrily with laughter.
Aside from her obviously child-like nature, there is something about her that speaks
of an old and powerful wisdom that is well beyond her years.

A small child is in perfect health.

A small child is using:

The Sandman:

He seems to correspond to this room in Vast Horizons:

-------------------------------------------------------    - ---(+)--- -
                                                          \    -    /
It is difficult to look at the towering mound of pure white sand, as the sun
is reflected so strongly that your eyes find themselves automatically
squinting and wanting to close. The dune appears to be perfect, but only
because when small amounts of sand are removed from it, other particles slide
down to fill in the spot. A legend holds that this dune of the purest white
sand is where the Sandman gathers his cache from each evening at dusk. If you
manage to stay awake long enough, perhaps he'll make an appearance.
Exits: none

If you remain in that room for awhile, you eventually start seeing this echo:
The pace of thought quickens as the mind reaches forth...

But I was too lazy to hang around and see if he showed up or something happens.

Latest revision as of 03:24, 17 June 2025

This page is a basic breakdown of Death and Deities for new players.

I'm going to start to break more specific data onto additional new pages. Leaving it all in place below for now, while I continue offloading to:

  • Deities -- This is the main source of specific info about deities, their benefits, how to favor, etc.
  • Deity Directions -- This is directions to each Deity & Naos
  • Priests -- This is about the roaming Priests which seemingly serve no purpose and are merely interesting.

I'm really trying not to do a full page on either Deity since that's redundant to RodPedia, but I do have more information, so not sure how I'll proceed quite yet.

Death

  • Upon death, you will awake in the Temple of Notre Dame. See 'help map'.
    • To walk back to Darkhaven Square: #5 s; e; e; se
    • The Halls of Knowledge (where you may have been initially exploring upon first entering the game) is then: #3 e, s; d
  • If you die while under level 10, you keep all your gear and can just get right back to doing whatever you were doing.
If you die after level 10, your corpse with all your gear remains where you died.
You must retrieve your corpse so you can get your gear out of it.

Corpse Status

Your corpse will lay on the ground and slowly rot. If it rot's completely, it is gone, all your gear is gone, and you have lost everything.

  • Rot Time: About 24 hours
  • Reboots: Corpses DO save across the daily reboot (6am EST)
  • Crashes: Corpses MAY (should) save in the event of a crash.... no promises.

So, you basically have 24 real-world-hours to go and get your shit out of your corpse, and you should hope the game doesn't crash in that time period.

Useful Command: remains

This command will show you the room location of your corpse, and its status as it rots.

Corpse Retrieval

Commonly called 'CR', you might chat "can someone help me with a CR?"

  • Option 1: Walk back to where you died, get your shit from your corpse
    • You are naked. Go buy a light first. And maybe a recall scroll. Ideally, get something so you can hide/sneak and have invisibility cast on you. You should save/quit/relog so that any mobs which were aggro on you drop aggro.
    • This can be a real fucking pain. You might need someone else to come along to kill any mobs in the way.
  • Option 2: Have your deity bring your corpse(s) right to you via 'supplicate corpse'
    • Requires being devoted to a deity, and having sufficient favor with that deity.
    • This is easy as shit. There are only about 1% of rooms/areas that are 'no supplicate'.

(There's also an Option 3: Have an immortal bring your corpse, in exchange for Glory... but that's not something newbs would do, so forget about that)

Deities

Which Deity Should I Pick?

There's a bunch, and they each have minor advantages but honestly if you are new don't bother with that shit yet, it's splitting hairs and not going to make a huge difference to your first characters (and you can change later anyways). For your first char you just want the easiest deities to 'favor up' with so you can supplicate your corpse whenever you die. Pick one of these:

For Good align: [A'enari] (Works for most classes, dislikes Thieves however)
For Evil align: [Vl'aresch] (Also Neutral align chars)

How to Devote to a Deity?

You devote to a deity by walking to their room or their naos and using the command 'devote <deity>'.

You can always view/check your own deity in the 'score' command output

You can see other players deities in the 'whois CHARACTER' command output

Favor

As you gain 'favor' with your deity you gain benefits.

  • Supplicate command: Your deity will bring you 'stuff' (outlined below)
  • Affects: At low/mid/max favor levels you gain some minor affects (See: Here)
  • Resistance: At max favor level you gain a 10% resistance to something (See: Here)

How to Gain Favor?

After devoting, you can check 'score' to see your current favor level with your deity.

  • For A'enari/Vl'aresch:
    • Each time you walk into their room you gain favor.
    • Use the links above, follow the dirs, then go e/w/e/w/e/w in/out of their room a bunch.
    • This method maxes out at "Praised" favor.

The "Praised" level is what you need to be at to 'supplicate corpse'. So, with these deities you essentially always have the ability to supp corpse, and then re-favor back up to Praised in like 30 second, and repeat that process of dying/supplicating/refavoring quite quickly.

  • For Other Deities:
    • You'll need to get into the weeds to learn exactly what the deity likes/dislikes to learn how to favor up quickly.
    • I have that stuff spec'd out more in-depth Here

Favor Level Details

In-game, see 'help favor_levels'

In code, favor is a numeric value (players cannot see this, it's visible in the publicly released SMAUG code however).

loved +2251 to +2500
cherished +2001 to +2250
honored +1751 to +2000
praised +1501 to +1750
favored +1251 to +1500
respected +1001 to +1250
liked +750 to +1000
tolerated +251 to +750 <---500 range
ignored -249 to +250 <---500 range
shunned -250 to -749 <---500 range
disliked -750 to -999
dishonored -1000 to -1249
disowned -1250 to -1499
abandoned -1500 to -1749
despised -1750 to -1999
hated -2000 to -2249
damned -2250 to -2500

Note how most ranges are 250 pts, except near the center where there are 500pt ranges.

Since you see special Resistance and Affects benefits at full max favor, just check for those:

  • Run the 'aff by' command and look for the benefits outlined for your deity Here
    • Note you may want to dispel all other spells first to be sure what you're seeing is from your deity and not a spell or potion.

Favor Technical Details

The following actions will impact your favor. These are found in the older SMAUG code, some seem redundant - because they are, as newer code has been added into the game over time which now entail/encompass previous conditions, yet both remain active.

Theoretically all of the flavor text that outlines what deities "like/dislike" to gain favor should correspond to these.

  • See Here for more info on how to gain favor with each Deity.
Action
Flee
Flee from race deity likes/hates
Kill a mob or player
Kill mob from race deity likes/hates
Sacrifice a corpse
Bury a corpse
Dig up a corpse

Cast a defensive spell on a player
Cast a defensive spell (Any)

Backstab, Circle
Die
Die to a mob from race deity likes/hates

Supplication

The deity system allows you to use your deity to bring you a few things, via the 'supplicate' command:

See: help supplicate
Syntax: supplicate <THING>
corpse retrieves your corpse from supplicatable room(s)
avatar summons an avatar of your deity
object summons a sigil of your deity
recall sends you to your recall point (bypasses norecall flags)
restore completely restores hitpoints, mana, and movement

THING Min Favor Note
Corpse Praised If multiple corpses exist, they will ALL be brought to you
Object Liked* Sigils all have 20ac, Affect AC -20, and +1 to a stat.
Restore Liked* If you're about to die, try 'supp restore' to save your ass
Recall Liked* If you forgot a recall, or if you're about to die, try 'supp recall' to gtfo (Note: You'll lose a shit ton of xp)
Avatar Liked* The avatar is like a pet NPC that will fight with you, but they suck. The more useful thing to do with them is use them to mark a room in a maze.

For all of the "Liked*" the value required is actually in the upper portion of the "Liked" range, probably around +850. So, it's possible to be "Liked" but not liked ENOUGH to supplicate those.

Corpse

  • Minimum Favor Required: Praised
  • Favor Cost: 1000 (4 Favor Levels - Praised will drop to Tolerated, etc)
  • Syntax: supplicate corpse
    • If you have multiple corpses out in the world, all of them will be brought to you.
  • Restrictions: Some rooms/areas in the realms are "no-supplicate".
    • This means that if you die there you cannot use your deity to supplicate your corpse.
    • Take extraaaaa caution in these areas, as you will have to return there (buck naked) to retrieve your gear from your corpse if you die.

Don't forget that you can use the 'remains' command to check on your corpse(s), its location, and status of rotting.

Also.... note that your corpse is a thing that's laying on the floor.

Sigils

  • Minimum Favor Required: Liked
  • Favor Cost: 750 (3 Favor Levels - Praised will drop to Liked, etc)
  • Syntax: supplicate object

Supp object creates a piece of equipment, always a light, always named "the sigil of <YOUR DEITY>"

  • They are all identical in their basic specs (hp/mn/mv/ac)
  • They each include a different STAT +1
    • See the "Sigil Stat" column Here

Object 'the sigil of DEITY' is infused with your magic...
It is a level 50 light, weight 1.
Special properties: none
This light has a gold value of 0.
Affects hp by 20.
Affects mana by 20.
Affects moves by 20.
Affects armor class by -20.
Affects __STAT__ by 1.

Note that sigils are not in any way restricted as far as who can wear them. You do not need to be devoted to a specific deity to wear their sigil.

Sigil Renames

Sigils have a tiny bit of fun built into them as they can be upgraded twice.

The first upgrade merely renames the sigil to something slightly more interesting.

To upgrade:

  1. Be at Max Loved favor
  2. Have a sigil of your deity
  3. Give the sigil to your Deity

There is a percent chance that your deity hands it back to you with a fun rename. See "Sigil Rename" column Here

Note that this does cost favor to attempt, similar to supplicating something, so you'll need to re-favor back to full Loved favor to try again.

Super Sigils

Once you have renamed a sigil, you can attempt to upgrade it a second time if you want.

  • The Sigil will once again be renamed into its special Super Sigil name. (See "Super Sigil" column Here)
  • Super Sigils have a great deal more stats on them than regular or renamed sigils. (See Below)

NOTE: Super Sigils are temporary items - they expire and go poof eventually (few hours).

The method to upgrade a Renamed Sigil into a Super Sigil is the exact same:

To upgrade:

  1. Be at Max Loved favor
  2. Have a Renamed Sigil of your deity
  3. Give the Renamed Sigil to your Deity

Again, there is a percent chance your deity will turn it into a Super Sigil for you.

All Super Sigils have identical specs:

Object '__________' is infused with your magic...
It is a level 50 light, weight 1.
Special properties: glow
Alignments allowed: good
This light has a gold value of 800.
Affects affected_by by detect_hidden
Affects affected_by by detect_invis
Affects affected_by by detect_magic
Affects affected_by by detect_traps
Affects affected_by by detect_evil
Affects armor class by -50.
Affects moves by 30.
Affects mana by 30.
Affects luck by 2.
Affects hp by 30.

Restore

  • Minimum Favor Required: Liked
  • Favor Cost: 750 (3 Favor Levels - Praised will drop to Liked, etc)
  • Syntax: supplicate restore
  • Restrictions: no-supplicate rooms

This will immediately restore you to full health, full mana, full movement.

This is used to save your own ass if are in a fight and getting romped and are about to die.

Recall

  • Minimum Favor Required: Liked
  • Favor Cost: 750 (3 Favor Levels - Praised will drop to Liked, etc)
  • Syntax: supplicate recall
  • Restrictions: no-supplicate rooms

This is just a free recall.

Note that some rooms/areas which are 'no-supplicate' also prevent you from using 'supp recall' to exit those areas/rooms.

Avatar

  • Minimum Favor Required: Liked
  • Favor Cost: 750 (3 Favor Levels - Praised will drop to Liked, etc)
  • Syntax: supplicate avatar
  • Restrictions: no-supplicate rooms

This summons a level 15 NPC who is your little minion and can do stuff at your behest.

Ultimately these are not useful in fighting, and die quickly. They are MORE commonly used (its the ONLY time I've ever seen them used) to mark rooms in mazes that otherwise prevent you drop dropping items or creating magic springs/fires to flag a specific room. You can park a supplicated avatar in one of those rooms as a marker. Basically an easier method than bringing in another actual char (or where you must remain IP1).

How to Master Death

Death is simple, and easily rectified. You shouldn't be afraid to die. You should just be prepared correctly and it will be no big thang.

1. Devote to a Deity with very easy favor method (A'enari or Vl'aresch suggested for newbs)

As a NEW player, start there. Once you are more experienced, try some other deities and figure out how to quickly re-favor with them so you can die and supp corpse and re-favor quickly, then go explore and die as much as you want without fear.

Full Deities List

When you've decided that's it, you were never meant to marry, you might want to check out the table below which attempts to quantify all of the info known about Deities. For additional write-ups on each Deity please see Rodpedia

  • Note: Where any Race/Class restrictions are listed, those mean the deity is restricted to ONLY THOSE races/classes so you MUST be one of those.

    • Ghordhol: Gain favor by Visiting and giving them gold. Approx 1m per favor level.
    • Kalerd: Gain favor by Visiting their Naos and examining the orb every 30-40 minutes.
    • Tirebaen: Gain favor by Visiting their Naos and examining the tureen every 30-40 minutes
    • Sil-Galith: Casts sanc, elemental shields, armor, bless, shield, and valiance on you if you pray to her ([See Here])
