Clerics follow one of 3 paths based on their Deity. Before you devote to a Deity you might want to consider the following:

These paths are quickly described as:

  • Vis Liberata: Storm Cleric -- gets attack spells that only work outdoors.
  • Amnis Umbra: Rangecaster, Support -- gets stuff to aid in supporting other chars, brewing, etc.
  • Arcana Eviae: Tank/Battle Cleric -- gets armor/healing buffs, and defenses/attacks vs. undead.

Path Skills

Vis Liberata

Storm clerics are cool. They get Caustic Rain and Storm of Vengeance, which are both ongoing attacks that do damage every round for X rounds.

Caustic lasts for like 10-20 rounds, then you re-cast. Storm goes through 4 different multi-round spells (each elemental), so its slightly longer. You'll be casting those, then using virtue/normal stuff while they run, then re-applying caustic/storm. This can put out a lot of damage since you're still attacking like a normal cleric PLUS these 2 damage spells are running simultaneously.

Vis Liberata All Atk Cold Fire Near Fire: Ice attack
Vis Liberata All Atk Storm of Vengeance Elemental attack: fire, ice, thunder, lightning, acid.

Amnis Umbra

This is the path I know the least about. Rangecasting is an interesting mechanic that has yet to be super exploited by the player base. The list of spells you can cast from a room away is limited, with the best heal being cure serious, however a rangecaster army doing that does put out a good amount of healing. Kinda should be more of a popular thing to do honestly.

Amnis Umbra All Buff Greater Sanctuary Sanctuary, +60 "AEGIS" (?)

Arcana Eviae

I call these Tank Clerics. They get the armor buff 'indurate' which results in you taking nearly zero equipment damage, 'visage of the deity' causes you to quaff at the fastest pace of any class in the game, and Greater Sanctuary blocks 60% of damage instead of the usual 50%. You don't take much damage, and can fix it super fast when you do.

There's like 5 more buffs that are helpful as well. Also, they can create their own badass weapon on a timer, and get a once-per-fight big attack 'hand of whatever' that's fun to try to KB mobs with.

The Neut skill Boneshatter is decent. Theoretically the Turn Undead and Banish Undead spells are probably very useful somewhere, though I haven't found the application for them yet.
